Well, it wasn’t a complete trip but we gave it our best shot.

Arrived at Jester Park around 2pm Friday afternoon and quickly got to work setting up the site. Grills were out, table was set, tents were getting their last stakes in the ground.. then HELLO WIND! In a matter of minutes the weather went from calm and sunny to blistering wind and rain. Jillian was clutching Oscar as I did my best Superman impression in an attempt to keep the tent from picking us up and throwing us.

As fast as the storm came in, it left. Mother Nature decided to offer a concession via calm winds and some sunshine. This would last just long enough for us to enjoy the prime rib Dale brought for dinner, then HELLO WIND AGAIN! This time it persisted, but we made the best of it as we sat by the fire and made smores.

Nighttime was quite the adventure. The tent bowed and dipped like crazy, bending and ripping the stakes from the ground. Multiple attempts were made to secure the tent and neither of us got any real sleep.

After a great breakfast of bacon, eggs, and hash browns, we collectively decided not to brave another night like that. We packed up and ended the trip a day early.

The Pictures page has been updated with camping pics, you check them out now or I send my army of ninja-hamsters to your home, with orders to kill.

With recent enthusiastic talk about our first camping weekend (shooting for early May), I began fidgeting with anticipation about getting out and staking out our first site for the season. In doing some research about various camping essentials, I came across an article on About.com that had a variety of links to great camping tips/tricks.

We will definitely be giving these a shot this summer!

  1. Butter Onion Trout
  2. Hobo stew
  3. Dogs in a Blanket
  4. Pizza Bagel

My goal is to get a few 2-3 night camping trips by mid-summer, including a good old fashion shore lunch.

Curious how to fillet a fish? Best walk-thru I’ve seen

I am beyond ready for Spring to finally be here. This cold is sucking the life right out of me!

We will actually be able to spend our Spring/Summer doing recreational things this year, and I can’t wait. Lots of camping trips, fishing, probably some much needed yard work, etc. Hell, I’ve even got the plans for my new workbench already drawn up and materials priced out.

On a techy note, my new router should be here tomorrow. Our current Belkin MIMO router is horrible at best and I’m done dealing with it. I plan on taping the destruction of said router, should be a fun event.
