Ulmer, remember this gem? I thought I still had the floppies Rob made for me that contained this game (all 5 of them!) but I couldn’t seem to find them. I remember cranking Candlebox during take off and timing liftoff just as the drums kicked in, ahhhh yeah!
Updated my Console Gaming page with my most recent PS3 game of choice, Demon’s Souls.

FINALLY!!!!
I nearly wet myself when I found a port of the original Worms game on the PSN. Only problem was it was limited to 2 players, and local play only.
I was browsing through the spin-packages for Fedora 12 (scheduled to be released next week baby!) and found Wormux, a maintained and supported port of Worms! And yes, they have Linux and Windows binaries!
Check it out ASAP, and let me know if you want to fire up a game.
In all of my Linux touting, Windows hating, Microsoft bashing tirades I’m often asked what I’m running on my personal computers. Well I’d be quite the hypocrite running Windows amidst my campaign to convert every living soul I pass on the street to using Linux, now wouldn’t I.
However, such is true. But before you light the torches and sharpen your pitchforks hear me out.
My personal arsenal of computing power consists of the following:
Now, if you follow my blog with any degree of frequency you know by now that I’m a gamer at heart. I’m big into MMORPG’s and my latest digital drug of choice has been WoW. Since my 2500+ machine has never been converted to Linux due to it having the greatest gaming capabilities (it has the “good” video card) I’ve kept it as the de facto gaming box… and nothing else.
I’ve played around with Wine in the past, but I’m talking a long, long time ago when Torvalds was probably still living in his mother’s basement. It was a bear to configure and anything more demanding than simple spreadsheet/office programs often chugged along at the pace of death. So I often conceded the fact that I would always need a Windows box laying around to play my games… until NOW.
Wine has made leaps and bounds in recent years, so much that most newer games (sans Dx10 required) will run under Wine with little to no tweaking. I found that WoW works extremely well right out of the box! This article dives deeper into Wine’s recent accomplishments and gives you a list of known, functional games within Wine.
Many users report that games under Wine operate better when windowed than when running in Windows itself. Irony at its finest! Windows doesn’t manage windows well, heh. What does this mean? Multi-monitor setups now reclaim their usefulness as games no longer require “full screen” modes to function at their optimum levels. So you can multitask like a banshee while slaying orcs and scoring all that phat lewtz. Your boss would be so proud!
May it be time to completely break the Microsoft shackles? The horizon is beginning to come into focus!
